Before sending us your manuscript, please ask yourself: Is Little Island Press right for your work? Have a look through our website at the types of books we produce and see if we are a good fit with you.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR SUBMISSION
Cover letter: A one-page description about yourself and how you came to write your manuscript (and who else is involved eg. illustrators, photographers, translators). Include your contact details. List any previous published work. What is your story about?
Synopsis: Keep it short, direct and straight to the core of what your manuscript is about – less than one page is ideal.
What to send us:
• Nonfiction: The first three chapters, double-spaced with page numbers. Please don’t send the entire manuscript.
• Fiction: Please send 1500 to 3000 words, double-spaced with page numbers. Please don’t send the entire manuscript.
• Children’s: Please send the full manuscript double-spaced. For picture books, unless you are an illustrator, or wish to illustrate the story yourself, please only send text. If you are sending illustrations, include copies of sample artwork (do not send original artwork). Include a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope if you would like your submission returned.
Is there a Market / Audience for it? A one-page description of the target reading market for your proposed book. Who will buy it? Where will it sit in a bookstore? What will help it stand out against other books? What do you see it looking like?
Competition: Who is your competition? Are there similar books out there?
Are you happy with what you're sending in?
Many writers rush to send in their manuscripts and later realise that there were changes they feel they should have made. It's important to take time on your manuscript and only send it in when you feel that it represents the best of your writing abilities.
Have you sent your manuscript to other publishers’?
If so, who have you sent it to and what was their response? If you’ve taken on feedback from another publisher, is this a rewritten submission of the same story? It is of interest to us if another publisher has already declined this work.
HOW DOES YOUR SUBMISSION LOOK?
Clearly display the title of your work.
Your name, address, email and phone number should be on the title page.
Put page numbers on your work.
Proofread your work.
